Creating to Connect
They say in business it pays to be a thought leader.
But is it ok to be a thought follower instead?
Influencers, educators and content creators dominate these platforms.
They’ve all got something to share that “builds their brand” and “creates value”.
But what if “brand building” makes you feel icky and you’re still trying to work out what “creating value” means to you?
I suggest stop thinking about being a thought leader and become a thought follower.
What does that mean?
- follow people that you like and find interesting
- follow threads that make you think
- follow your curiosity and comment where you can
Commenting isn’t just about agreeing with what’s been posted.
It’s also about sharing what’s sparked inside you.
It’s engaging in a conversation that allows you to learn out loud and connect the dots in your head.
That may be scary.
Particularly when it feels like you’re “doing it in public”.
That’s why it’s important to follow (and connect) with people you like.
People whose values and thoughts resonate with you.
This week Tribe 8 of our Vision 20/20 program are sharing their thoughts out in the open.
They’re sharing their perspectives and stories.
Not to convert.
But to connect.
And they’re learning about each other as well about themselves.
Apparently only 1% of users of LinkedIn actually post something (thanks for that stat David Hieatt).
Why not join that 1%?
Not to get.
But to grow.
All you need is:
- curiosity
- courage
- commitment
And then the content will come.
