Finding the Middle Passage
“This is how I earn my living. This is how I replenish my soul."
James Hollis, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘦: 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘔𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦
In a world where we’re rewarded for productivity and not wholeness doing both can be a challenge.
Does that mean it's impossible?
No.
But it doesn't just fall into your lap.
You can follow your bliss but it may not fill your bank account.
Having explored this for the past 10 years I've become even more wary of the simplistic messages that tell you "your passion will lead to profits".
I know that it can.
But only if you let go of some beliefs and expectations.
Making money takes a very specific mindset.
Finding meaning takes another type of mindset.
Both need you to get out of your own way.
𝗧𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆:
• you have to be able to communicate value
• you need to see things through others eyes
• you need to be unattached to numbers
𝗧𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴:
• you have to discover your innate value
• you need to see things through your own eyes
• you need to be unnattached to outcome
Doing both isn't easy, but I believe it's always possible.
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼:
• have courage and commitment
• adopt a beginners mind
• let go of past beliefs
• get out of your own head
If you're struggling to get started find support.
Find others on a similar journey.
And be kind to yourself.
