Focus on Ease
What if it could be easy?
This is a question that I’ve always had mixed feelings about.
On the one hand I’ve been taught that only hard work is rewarded.
Hard work:
- takes commitment
- shows discipline
- gets the job done
“Good work takes hard work”
On the other hand hard work can be an unhealthy habit.
It can cause us to strive and push when we no longer need to.
It can be an unconscious behaviour driven by our need to be approved or feel worthy.
That’s why I’ve worked hard.
Even though deep down it isn’t my natural path.
At my core is ease.
I’ve always looked for the most efficient and least effortful solution to a problem or question.
Not because I’m lazy (I have a difficult relationship with the world lazy, but that’s for another time).
It’s partly because I don’t like wasting time and energy when I don’t need to.
But more significantly it’s because I love elegance.
Elegance is:
- simple
- beautiful
- focused
Elegance goes to the heart of a problem and finds the path of least resistance to the answer.
When it comes to business what if you focused on elegance rather than effort.
I’ve come to the realisation that becoming a physicist met my need to find elegant solutions.
I learned that nature always seeks the lowest energy state. This is where equilibrium lies.
So when it comes to finding solutions to problems what if you looked for more ease.
How can you apply everything you’ve already learned, experienced and believe into making someone else’s life better?
If you’re in transition and thinking of a new path for your life and work…
and you’re wanting to create an impact in the world…
pick problems that you can most elegantly address.
Follow these prompts to guide you:
- Pick a problem that you’re drawn to
- Think of all the different ways that this problem can be solved
- Pick one that you can solve most effortlessly
- Pick one that you think people will pay for
What problem are you tackling with elegant ideas?
