“People like us do things like this.”
“People like us do things like this.”
Seth Godin
Scrolling through Instagram this morning I came across a reel from Tad Hargrave talking about niching in business.
I've witnessed how much of a struggle this is for many:
- if I niche I’ll lose potential customers
- if I niche I’ll feel restricted
- if I niche I might not be able to make enough money
So many hurdles.
But niching will be the best thing you can do (Penny Lee is an expert on this).
Particularly if you’re a company of one (check out Paul Jarvis’ book of the same name).
The ultimate niche is creating a category of one (see the work of the Category Pirates).
I won’t go into the benefits of niching right now but I’ll share what I’ve learned from Tad about how to get over your blocks to niching.
Think about the community that you’d wish would adopt you:
- what are their values?
- how would they make you feel?
- how could they help you?
If you can answer these questions truthfully then that community is your niche.
They’re the ones who’ll cheerlead and support you.
And they’re also the ones you can help in your own unique way.
Do you know who that community is for you?
Or have you created one yourself?
People I know who’ve created communities that would love to adopt you:
- Claire Perry-Louise (Like Hearted Leaders)
- David Hieatt (The DoLectures)
- David Radparvar (Holstee)
- Tad Hargrave (Marekting for Hippies)
- Me and Laurence McCahill (The Happy Startup School)
This just a handful.
There are many out there.
And you can also start your own.
Why not share your communites below to help others get adopted by them.
