Put this in your pipe and smoke it
Psychedelics make you smarter.
I’m now curious about taking magic mushrooms.
This is what I learned last night from Dr David Luke at the Seed Talks event.
- psychedelics quieten the brain
- psychedelics also increase the overall connectivity in the brain
- psychedelics are not toxic
Dr Luke is Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Greenwich and teaches a course on Psychology of Exceptional Human Experience.
He gave a educational and engaging talk sharing stories and facts from his research including:
- Melvin Sheldrake took part in one of his studies (author of Entangle Life)
- he got theoretical physicists to take LSD to help solve their biggest intellectual challenges
- Francis Crick, co-discoverer of the double helix structure of DNA, loved LSD
- 70,000 doses of LSD won’t kill you
A striking slide for me illustrated the difference in brain activity when on psychedelics. Whilst parts of the mind get more quiet ALL the parts communicate more. Information traffic flows more freely, there are less blockages.
I’ve been learning a little about neuroscience lately and about how we see the world through filters that stops us from perceiving reality as it.
I’ve made the connection that psychedelics (and meditation) melts away these filters and so alters our perception of the world.
We can shed our biases and beliefs so that we become less inhibited, more creative and also more connected.
The brain becomes more connected.
Which also promotes more self-connection.
As well as connection with others.
And connection to the planet.
The Ameraindians found that psychedelics helped them not only see other objects and beings in nature more clearly, it helped them become them.
“You only truly understand it if you become it”
There’s something important here for me that applies to how I want to do business and be in the world.
I want to understand myself more.
I want to understand others more
And I want to understand the world more.
Because I’ll then better understand my place:
- as an individual
- as a father
- as an entrepreneur
- as a member of society
- as a member of the human race
- and as part of an infinite existence
Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
What's your relationship to psychedelics?
