The 4 Limiting Filters of Leadership

We can all be leaders.

But how we lead can be limited when you don’t have awareness.

Awareness of self, awareness of others and awareness of our impact.

My work is to help midlife entrepreneurs (particularly companies of one) to lead their lives with more intention and purpose.

I believe to do this we must start with awareness of self.

- what are my habits and biases?
- what do I wish and long for?
- what stops me claiming what I want?

It doesn’t matter how clear you are about the business plan or how capable you are as a professional if you’re unaware of what drives and guides you it’s very likely you’ll end up leading yourself somewhere you don’t want to be.

Learning the skills and knowledge it takes to run a business is important.

Unlearning the unconscious life lessons and limiting beliefs that stop you from acting with purpose is even more so.

Having a vision is so important for a well lived life.

But that vision can only become clear when you recalibrate the filters you’ve been looking at life through.

- filters about money
- filters about time
- filters about connection
- filters about impact

These filters are the stories of the past that can limit your vision of the future.

When we analyse these filters, check if they really serve us and then adjust them to help us see what we need to see then, and only then, can the tools and tactics of business be truly valuable (and impactful).

Then and only then can we not only work well within The System but also start to change it.

Then and only then can we start to mould The System into the shape that we know is right.

But we can’t do this work alone.

Because we’ll still be trapped in our own filter bubble of limits and fears.

Connecting with others, conversing with others and opening up with what’s really going on is the only way to recalibrate our filters and bring them up to date with what’s happening (and is needed) today.
