The Beauty of Uncertainty in Entrepreneurship
If you want to learn how to build a business don’t just read about it.
Just do it.
- Try things out
- Play with your ideas
- Talk to people
It’s impossible to predict how things will turn out.
No book will ever tell you what will happen.
And so what’s stopping you?
- fear of uncertainty
- fear of loss (of time and money and face)
- fear of success
Talking to Sam Conniff yesterday on our Friday Fireside it occurred to me that there are two factors that create this fear:
- our biology
- our modern world
We’ve evolved to avoid uncertainty. We scan our environment and our deeply ingrained patterns project danger everywhere.
On top of that we’re bombarded with information, much of it fuelling fear.
Risk is rife and so when we think about doing something new we faun or freeze.
So build your resilience.
Discover that you CAN overcome setbacks and ride the waves of uncertainty.
By starting small.
Trying things out.
Failing fast but not catastrophically.
And build up a thick skin.
You’ll get bruised and scratched.
But you’ll get up again.
That’s when you’ll really learn.
And learn your way.
And.
Most importantly.
Don’t do it on your own.
You don’t have to.
There are people up there more than happy to pull you up when you’re down.
