We Are All on an Invisible Spectrum
If you were to looked at your life through a prism what would you see?
Physics has taught us that white light is made up of many colours.
Many we can’t perceive without help.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting The Observatory Science Centre.
It was a wonderfully thoughtful present from my wife.
Looking at the moon through a 6 tonne telescope I tapped into the wonder of space and my sense of awe.
I was reminded about light, lenses and prisms; how they help us to understand the stars.
I was reminded of astronomical spectroscopy:
- we detect the light from distant stars
- we break that light up into its constituent colours
- the patterns of those colours tell us what they’re made of
How does that work?
- each element in the universe emits and absorbs a different spectrum of light
- using a prism we can separate the light to see this spectrum
- we can then understand what makes up the different layers of the star
At the deepest layer the heat burns the elements and they emit light.
By detecting this light we can work out what’s at the core.
At the surface of the star some of this core light is absorbed.
By analysing the shadows in the spectrum we can discover the elements getting in the way.
Imagine taking this approach for ourselves.
What’s at your core that’s trying to shine through?
What’s at the surface that’s getting in the way?
Finding the right prism is key to understanding what we’re made of.
And therefore what we’re capable of.
The sun does its sun thing.
You need to do your you thing.
That’s my work to do.
As a “soul scientist” I analyse the spectrum of energies that make up you.
And help you understand what to do with it.
What techniques do you use to shed light on what’s your work to do?
