What's Your Superpower?
My superpower is discipline.
I set a goal, I create a plan, I execute.
But I’ve learned this isn’t something everyone finds natural.
- it’s hard
- it’s boring
- it’s lonely
Sometimes being disciplined can be a disaster.
If you’re so rigid that you don’t look up and allow yourself to follow your nose you can miss opportunities.
If you’re so rigid you don’t look up and share your experience you can lose connection (with others and your goal).
However, when you’re clear that you want to make a change, that change is impactful and that change takes some level of effort then having discipline can be the decider.
- one focus
- consistent regular steps
- incrementally getting closer to your goal
Discipline on your own is hard.
Doing things with others is easier.
Distributing the accountability helps.
Don’t do it on your own.
- find people who want similar things
- meet regularly
- find a guide
The guide is the one who’ll keep the pace.
They’ll tell you which next step to take.
They’ll remind you to keep turning up.
They’ll remind you of how far you’ve come.
The group will make you feel less alone.
And when you’re not making progress you’ll still feel good because you’ll be helping others move forward.
And at some point you’ll find your own discipline because:
- you’ll know exactly what you want
- you’ll believe you can get it
- you’ll enjoy the process of getting there
Discipline isn’t just about doing.
It’s about doing with determination and delight.
So you keep going.
When you’re climbing the second mountain of life and wanting to get clear about what’s next…
you’ll need discipline…
and you’ll need company.
