When we Unconsciously Choose we Unconsciously Lose
What can be examples of unconscious choices:
- we take a job because it pays well
- we make a decision because of the money
- we follow a path because other people said it was the right one
We’re told that there’s something to gain.
But what do we lose along the way?
And what do we lose that we don’t realise we’re losing?
In the startup world I saw this a lot.
There was a clear path to success defined by gurus and greats.
People who wrote about the path.
And people who followed the path.
And in the gold rush to be take advantage of new online opportunities wannapreneurs and change makers would follow along behind.
But without really asking themselves why.
As a “startup studio” we’d help these online entrepreneurs.
Laurenceand I had the knowledge and skills to design and build almost anything.
But without understanding the why we’d always end up going round in circles.
Design decisions, tech choices and product requirements were rarely grounded in sufficient clarity or intention.
That’s why we would always ask our clients why.
- why this audience?
- why this product?
- why you?
Because when you consciously choose, you’ll never consciously lose.
You’ve defined where you want to go.
And you’ve accepted what that means.
You’ve chosen what you want, not what other people want, which means you won’t leave behind anything that’s important.
How many times have you made unconscious choices?
And how are you choosing more consciously now?
